Job Title:
Shelter Assistant (Part-time) (Yau Tsim Mong)
Salary:
Day Shift (0830-1730): $71.4 per hour
Night Shift (1730-0830 the next day): $90.9 per hour
Entry Requirements:
Obtained education level at Primary 6 or above, or equivalent.
Note:
Irregular working hours; may be required to work over-night on Saturdays, Sundays or Public Holidays.
Duties:
(a) To assist in the operation of the Home Affairs Department's temporary shelters/ temporary cold shelters/ temporary night heat shelters in Community Halls and Community Centres when activated, including registration of shelter users, distributing meals, handling enquiries and complaints, patrolling the shelter and overseeing the work of contractual staff (such as security guards and cleansing staff); and
(b) To handle any other appropriate duties assigned.
Terms of Appointment:
(1) The successful candidate will be appointed on non-civil service contract terms for a period not more than one year.
(2) Further renewal to be subject to satisfactory performance and operational needs.
Fringe Benefits
Unless one of the exemptions specified in the Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) Scheme Ordinance (Cap. 485) is applicable to the successful candidate, the Government will arrange to make contributions for the candidate to a registered MPF scheme. Other benefits such as rest days, statutory holidays (or substituted holidays), maternity leave, sickness allowance, where appropriate, will be granted in line with the provisions in the Employment Ordinance when applicable.
General Notes:
(a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

(e) Where a large number of candidates meet the specified entry requirements, the recruiting department may devise shortlisting criteria to select the better qualified candidates for further processing. In these circumstances, only shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend recruitment examination and/or interview.
(f) It is Government policy to place people with a disability in appropriate jobs wherever possible. If a disabled candidate meets the entry requirements, he/she will be invited to attend the selection interview/written examination without being subject to any further shortlisting criteria. Applicants who have declared disabilities found suitable for appointment may be given an appropriate degree of preference over other applicants whose suitability for appointment is considered comparable to that of the former. (g) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications. They should submit copies of their official transcripts and certificates by mail to the below enquiry address.

(1) Applicants must apply online through the G.F. 340 Online Application System of the Civil Service Bureau (https://www.csb.gov.hk). The application must also be supported by submission of supporting documents by post or in person (For details, please refer to item (3) below.)
(2) Applications which are incomplete or submitted in person, by post, by fax or by e-mail will not be accepted.
(3) Applicants must submit the photocopies of all supporting documents including the academic result/certificates and employment proofs (e.g. employment certificates, reference letters, etc.) to the enquiry address below by post or in person on or before the closing date for application. For submission by post, the postmark date on the envelope will be regarded as the date of application. To avoid delayed or unsuccessful delivery of applications by post, please ensure that the correct address is clearly printed or written on the envelope and sufficient postage has been affixed before posting. Mail items bearing insufficient postage will not be delivered to this Department and will be returned to the sender or disposed of by the Hong Kong Post, where appropriate. Applicants will bear any consequences arising from paying insufficient postage. For submission in person, the application should reach the enquiry address below by 5:00 p.m. on the closing date. Please specify “Application for the post of Shelter Assistant (Part-time) (Yau Tsim Mong)" on the envelope. Late applications or applications which are incomplete or without the relevant supporting documents will not be considered.
(4) Candidates who are selected for interview will normally receive an invitation (by email or by post) in about six to eight weeks from the closing date for application. Those who are not invited for interview may assume that their applications are unsuccessful.
