Entry Requirements:
(a) A Hong Kong bachelor's degree majoring in English language, English studies, English literature or English language education, or equivalent [see Notes (ii) and (iii)];
(b) A certificate in education from a Hong Kong tertiary educational institution, or equivalent [see Note (iii)];
(c) Met the language proficiency requirements of "Level 2" results in the two language papers [Use of Chinese (UC) and Use of English (UE)] in the Common Recruitment Examination (CRE), or equivalent [see Note (iv)];
(d) A pass result in the Basic Law and National Security Law Test [See Note (vi)];
(e) At least 6 years' relevant post-qualification experience in English language teaching, panel supervision, curriculum development, conducting educational research, teacher training or providing direct support for schools focusing on English language education [see Note (v)];
(f) Sound knowledge about the international and national education trends in digital education and experience in planning, coordinating and implementing the integration of digital education in English language education;
(g) Experience in promoting drama in education, debating or public speaking preferred; and
(h) Candidates may be required to take a written test on the day of selection interview.
Note:
(i) The application period for the post of Curriculum Officer (Language Learning Support/English) is from 14 August 2026 (Friday) to 28 August 2026 (Friday).
(ii) Candidates should mark clearly on their application forms the major and minor subjects studied in their degree courses. Candidates possessing additional qualifications (e.g. a higher degree in a relevant subject) should include details in their applications.
(iii) Candidates who possess an overseas bachelor's degree in English Language subject, or English Language Education, or equivalent, and/or a certificate in education from an overseas tertiary educational institution or equivalent should attach a copy of the certificate of each overseas academic qualification.
(iv) Candidates' results in the UC and UE papers of CRE are classified as 'Level 2', 'Level 1' or 'Fail', with 'Level 2' being the highest. Level 5 or above in Chinese Language of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE); or Grade 'C' or above in Chinese Language and Culture or Chinese Language and Literature of the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (HKALE) are accepted as equivalent to 'Level 2' in the UC paper of the CRE. Level 5 or above in English Language of the HKDSEE; or Grade 'C' or above in Use of English of the HKALE; or 'C' or above in English Language of the General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level) (GCE A Level), are accepted as equivalent to 'Level 2' in the UE paper of the CRE. Applicants with an overall band of 6.5 or above with no subtest score below band 6 obtained in the same sitting in the Academic Module of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) within the two-year validity period of the test are considered as having met the English language proficiency requirement of the Curriculum Officer post. The IELTS test result must be valid on any date during the application period.
(v) Candidates should state the nature, details and relevancy of the post-qualification experience.
(vi) A pass result in the Basic Law and National Security Law Test is an entry requirement for Curriculum Officer jobs in the Education Bureau. All applicants for Curriculum Officer jobs will be assessed on their knowledge of the Basic Law and the National Security Law. Only those candidates who have passed the Basic Law and National Security Law Test will be considered for appointment.
Duties:
(a) To assist the supervisor in the coordination, planning, implementation and evaluation of the support services provided by the Language Learning Support Section, including the Section's participation in exchange activities with Mainland English language teachers;
(b) To plan, deliver and evaluate advisory and professional development support services for primary and secondary school heads, English panel heads and teachers in implementing different curriculum and policy initiatives, especially the integration of digital education into English language education;
(c) To plan, coordinate and deliver in-house professional development programmes;
(d) To plan, coordinate, conduct and evaluate school-based, network-based and territory-wide professional development activities for primary and secondary school English panel heads and teachers for the dissemination of good practices in English language learning, including the integration of GenAI use into English language learning and teaching;
(e) To plan, coordinate, conduct and evaluate network-based and territory-wide student activities;
(f) To undertake research and development projects related to English language learning and teaching in primary and secondary schools;
(g) To perform administrative tasks to ensure the smooth operation of the Section; and
(h) To perform other duties as assigned.
Terms of Appointment:
Successful candidates will be employed on non-civil service contract terms for 2.5 years.
Fringe Benefits
(a) 18 days annual leave, whereas rest days, statutory holidays (or substituted holidays), maternity leave/paternity leave and sickness allowance, where appropriate, will be granted in accordance with the provisions of the Employment Ordinance.
(b) A gratuity may be granted upon satisfactory completion of the contract with consistently high standard of performance and conduct. Such gratuity, if granted, plus any contribution made by the Government to a Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) scheme in respect of the appointee as required by the MPF Schemes Ordinance, will be equal to 15% of the total basic salary drawn during the contract period.
(c) Other fringe benefits include medical and dental benefits and, where appropriate, housing benefits.
