Master Pay Scale Point 5 ($19,930 per month) to Master Pay Scale Point 8 ($24,060 per month)
Entry Requirements:
Candidates should –
(a) (i) have completed an approved Craft Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering course or a relevant trade; or
(ii) have 3 years’ working experience in a mechanical workshop and experience in handling hydraulic system of machines;
(b) be able to communicate in Cantonese/Chinese and simple English, to read simple Chinese and simple English, and to write simple Chinese or simple English; and
(c) have a pass result in the Basic Law and National Security Law Test (BLNST).
Note:
1. Candidates will be required to pass a trade test.
2. All qualifications and working experience required should be obtained on or before the closing date for application.
3. All applicants for civil service jobs will be assessed on their knowledge of the Basic Law and the National Security Law. A pass result in the BLNST is an entry requirement for all civil service jobs. Only those candidates who have passed the BLNST will be considered for appointment. For candidates who have not taken the relevant BLNST or have not attained a pass result in the relevant BLNST at the time of application, they may still apply for the job and arrangements will be made for them to take the relevant BLNST during the recruitment process.
4. Artisan (Laboratory) may be required to wear uniform and to perform emergency and stand-by duties.
Duties:
Mainly deployed on -
(a) preparing samples, including cutting, grinding, etc., and assisting in performing tests for construction materials like concrete, concrete constituents and metal;
(b) carrying out routine cleaning, maintenance and repair of workshop equipment, and cleaning and reinstating testing equipment and tools after use;
(c) fabricating minor ancillary equipment and accessories for use in testing;
(d) handling and storage of samples; and
(e) assisting in general duties for daily operation of the laboratory.
Terms of Appointment:
A new recruit will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, he/she may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.
General Notes:
(a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

(g) Where a large number of candidates meet the specified entry requirements, the recruiting department may devise shortlisting criteria to select the better qualified candidates for further processing. In these circumstances, only shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend trade test.
(h) It is Government policy to place people with a disability in appropriate jobs wherever possible. If a disabled candidate meets the entry requirements, he/ she will be invited to attend the trade test without being subject to further shortlisting. Applicants who have declared disabilities found suitable for appointment may be given an appropriate degree of preference over other applicants whose suitability for appointment is considered comparable to that of the former. How to apply:
Online application may be submitted through the G.F. 340 Online Application System of the Civil Service Bureau (csb.gov.hk).
Hardcopy G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023) application forms are also obtainable from any Home Affairs Enquiry Centre of District Offices, Home Affairs Department or any Job Centre of the Employment Services Division, Labour Department. The said form can be downloaded from the Civil Service Bureau’s website (csb.gov.hk). Moreover, completed application forms must be submitted to the contact address below by the closing date.
All applicants must submit copies of the following supporting documents on or before 7 August 2026 –
(a) official certificates of the approved Craft Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering course or a relevant trade;
(b) proof of working experience, e.g. current employment contract or letter; and official proof or stamped reference letters of previous employment records showing the positions held, commencement dates and end dates; and
(c) result notification letter or electronic result certificates of BLNST, if any.
For all postal applications with supporting documents, and for postal submission of supporting documents for online applications, applicants must quote “Application for Artisan (Laboratory)” on the envelope. Applications and supporting documents received by post will be dated by the postmark on the envelope. Please ensure sufficient postage is paid.
For online applications, applicants must also quote their application number together with “Application for Artisan (Laboratory)” on each page of the submitted copies.
Please ensure the e-mail address provided in your application is valid. Candidates who are selected for trade test will normally receive an invitation by post or email in about eight to ten weeks from the closing date for application. Those who are not invited for trade test may assume that their applications are unsuccessful.
Applications will be processed based on qualifications and work experience attained by the closing date for application.
Applications will not be accepted or considered if they are –
(a) incomplete or unsigned;
(b) submitted late;
(c) missing required supporting documents;
(d) submitted by fax, email or any means other than the prescribed G.F. 340 form or Online Application System; or
(e) failing to provide sufficient information in the G.F. 340 form to clearly demonstrate that the applicant meets the specified requirements for the post.
