Entry Requirements:
Candidates should –
(a) have at least 3 years’ working experience in an appropriate trade;
(b) be able to communicate in Cantonese/Chinese and simple English; read simple Chinese and simple English; and write simple Chinese or simple English; and
(c) have a pass result in the Basic Law and National Security Law Test (Note 2).
Note:
(1)Candidates will be required to pass a trade test.
(2)All applicants for civil service jobs will be assessed on their knowledge of the Basic Law and the National Security Law. A pass result in the Basic Law and National Security Law Test is an entry requirement for all civil service jobs. Only those candidates who have passed the Basic Law and National Security Law Test will be considered for appointment. For candidates who have not taken the relevant Basic Law and National Security Law Test or have not attained a pass result in the relevant Basic Law and National Security Law Test at the time of application, they may still apply for the job and arrangements will be made for them to take the relevant Basic Law and National Security Law Test during the recruitment process.
Duties:
An Artisan is mainly deployed on –
(a) Agriculture Branch : (i) carrying out general field work in crop production, i.e. land preparation, planting or seed sowing, irrigation, weeding, pesticide application, fertiliser application, harvesting, etc; (ii) carrying out general work in hydroponic vegetable production, i.e. preparation for planting, cultivation, harvesting, packaging and cleaning of production sites; (iii) operating farm machinery such as rotary cultivators, mowers, motorised-sprayers, and other equipment; and carrying out minor maintenance and repairs; (iv) propagating and maintaining vegetable seedlings and/or fruit trees for production and investigation purposes; and (v) conducting specialised field work according to experimental and development requirements.
(b) Inspection and Quarantine Branch : (i) performing farm work which requires special skills in livestock farming; (ii) assisting in the overall feed processing work for livestock and maintenance of the feed store or crop experimental work conducted in fields; (iii) caring, feeding, handling, restraining wild and other animals; (iv) designing, constructing and repairing Animal Management Centre facilities and equipment; (v) investigation of animal related cases and conducting animal capture operation; and (vi) assisting in law enforcement and inspection of animals, birds, plants and their products.
(c) Country Parks Branch : (i) supervising the construction and maintenance of Country Parks facilities and performing skilled construction and maintenance/repair work; (ii) leading a Country Park litter collection team; (iii) assisting in monitoring of cleaning services and maintaining cleanliness for Country Parks; (iv) fighting hill fires; (v) carrying out plant propagation and production and seed collection; (vi) planting and maintaining trees and plantations as well as managing vegetation; (vii) operating construction plants and equipment; and (viii) conducting field work according to facility development requirements.
(d) Fisheries and Marine Conservation Branch :
(I) Fisheries Division : (i) constructing, maintaining and repairing fishing and fish farming gear and equipment; (ii) performing fish farming work, including overseeing the preparation of fish feed and feeding of fish; (iii) operating, maintaining and repairing fish farming machinery and equipment; (iv) conducting fisheries surveys, including sampling of water, fish and other organisms for scientific measurements and observations; (v) performing fishing duties and miscellaneous duties on board a vessel; and carrying out inspections of commercial fishing vessels and testing of their gear and equipment; (vi) assisting in law enforcement and patrol activities; and (vii) operating and maintaining departmental vessels.
(II) Marine Parks Division : (i) constructing, maintaining and repairing marine park/marine reserve facilities; (ii) operating and maintaining departmental vessels; (iii) performing duties related to monitoring of cleaning services and maintaining cleanliness for marine parks/marine reserve; (iv) performing fishing and survey duties; (v) assisting in law enforcement and patrol activities; and (vi) assisting in general visitor services for promoting marine conservation.
(Note: May be required to work in remote places with difficult access; work irregular hours and/or perform shift duties; and work in inclement weather or during typhoon.)
Terms of Appointment:
A new recruit will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, he/she may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.
General Notes:
(a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

In these circumstances, only shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend recruitment examination and/or interview.
(h) It is Government policy to place people with a disability in appropriate jobs wherever possible. If a disabled candidate meets the entry requirements, he/she will be invited to attend the selection interview/written examination without being subject to further shortlisting. (i) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications. Application Forms [G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023)] are obtainable from any Home Affairs Enquiry Centres of District Offices, Home Affairs Department and any Job Centres of the Employment Services Division, Labour Department. The said form can also be downloaded from the Civil Service Bureau’s website (http://www.csb.gov.hk). Completed forms should be forwarded to the enquiry address of the recruiting department. Please clearly mark “Application for the post of Artisan” on the envelope and ensure that sufficient postage is paid. Online application can also be made available through the Civil Service Bureau’s website (http://www.csb.gov.hk). Applicants are encouraged to provide their email addresses on the application forms. Applications which are incomplete, late or submitted by fax / email will not be considered. Candidates who are selected for interview will normally receive an invitation (by email or by post) in about twelve to sixteen weeks from the closing date for application. Those who are not invited for interview may assume that their applications are unsuccessful.
Candidates who hold academic qualifications awarded by local institutions/ Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority are not required to submit photocopies of the official transcripts and certificates at this stage of application.
The new version of application form for Government jobs G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023) is to be in use with effect from 26 July 2023. Candidates who make applications on or after 26 July 2023 should use the new G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023). If candidates submit the old version form (G.F. 340 (Rev. 3/2013)), they will be required to fill in the new G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023) afresh and submit it within seven days upon request. If candidates fail to submit the new G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023) within the stipulated deadline, their applications will not be processed further.
