Salary: Police Pay Scale Point 4 ($28,095) to Police Pay Scale Point 17 ($41,155) (Note 1) per month 
Entry Requirements: (a) (i) Level 2 or equivalent (Note 2) or above in five subjects in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) (Notes 3&4), or equivalent; or
(ii) Level 2 (Note 5) / Grade E or above in five subjects in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) (Notes 3&4), or equivalent;
(b) (i) Level 2 (Note 5) or above in Chinese and English language in HKDSEE or HKCEE (Note 4), or equivalent; or have a pass result in Chinese and English language tests for Police Constable recruitment exercise, or equivalent ; and
(ii) be able to read and write Chinese and speak fluent Cantonese;
(c) pass a physical fitness test;
(d) pass an eyesight test which includes a visual acuity test and a colour perception test. Applicants who wear glasses or contact lenses may also apply for the post. Applicants may perform visual acuity tests with the aid of eyesight correction tools except for colour perception tests;
(e) must be permanent resident of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region;
(f) have a pass result in the Basic Law and National Security Law Test (Note 6); and
(g) pass a medical examination (including a urine drug test). 
Note: (1) With effect from 1st April 2009, new recruits to Police Constable are eligible for 5 Long Service Increments from HK$42,340 (Police Pay Scale Point 18) to HK$47,605 (Police Pay Scale Point 22) upon completion of 12, 18, 24, 30 and 36 years of satisfactory in-rank service.
(2) For civil service appointment purpose, “Attained with Distinction” and "Attained with Distinction (I)" in Applied Learning subjects (subject to a maximum of two Applied Learning subjects), and Grade C in Other Language subjects in the HKDSEE are accepted as equivalent to Level 3 in the New Senior Secondary subjects in the HKDSEE. “Attained” in Applied Learning subjects (subject to a maximum of two Applied Learning subjects), and Grade E in Other Language subjects in the HKDSEE are accepted as equivalent to Level 2 in the New Senior Secondary subjects in the HKDSEE.
(3) The subjects may include Chinese Language and English Language.
(4) Students who will attain the requisite academic qualification within the current academic year may also apply; if selected, appointment will be subject to their obtaining the requisite academic qualification within the current academic year. Final year undergraduate students graduating in the academic year of 2024 and penultimate year undergraduate students graduating in the academic year of 2025 may also apply. If selected, appointment will be subject to, among others, the attainment of requisite academic qualification (i.e. bachelor’s degree from a Hong Kong university, or equivalent) within the academic year in 2024 and 2025 respectively.
(5) For civil service appointment purpose, ‘Grade C’ and ‘Grade E’ in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 are accepted administratively as comparable to ‘Level 3’ and ‘Level 2’ respectively in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.
(6) All applicants for civil service jobs will be assessed on their knowledge of the Basic Law and the National Security Law. A pass result in the Basic Law and National Security Law Test is an entry requirement for all civil service jobs. Only those candidates who have passed the Basic Law and National Security Law Test will be considered for appointment. For candidates who have not taken the relevant Basic Law and National Security Law Test or have not attained a pass result in the relevant Basic Law and National Security Law Test at the time of application, they may still apply for the job and arrangements will be made for them to take the relevant Basic Law and National Security Law Test during the recruitment process.
(7) The new version of application form for Government jobs G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023) is to be in use with effect from 26 July 2023. Candidates who make applications on or after 26 July 2023 should use the new G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023). If candidates submit the old version form (G.F. 340 (Rev. 3/2013)), they will be required to fill in the new G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023) afresh and submit it within seven days upon request. If candidates fail to submit the new G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023) within the stipulated deadline, their applications will not be processed further. 
Duties: A Police Constable is mainly deployed on performing a wide variety of police duties and may be posted to one of the many police formations in uniform branch, traffic wing, crime wing or the marine region. He/she will be subject to discipline under the Police Force Ordinance and is required to work shifts and / or irregular hours and work in an area outside the HKSAR. 
Terms of Appointment: New recruits will be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years, and may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms upon satisfactory completion of the probationary period. 
General Notes: (a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

(h) It is Government policy to place people with a disability in appropriate jobs wherever possible. If a disabled candidate meets the entry requirements, he/she will be invited to attend the selection interview/written examination without being subject to further shortlisting.
