Part-time Mortuary Officer
HK $126 per hour
Candidates should -
(a)(i) have Level 2 or equivalent (Note 1) or above in five subjects in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) (Note 2), or equivalent; or
(ii) have Level 2 (Note 3) / Grade E or above in five subjects in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) (Note 2), or equivalent;
(b) have met the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 (Note 3) or above in Chinese Language and English Language in HKDSEE or HKCEE, or equivalent;
(c) have knowledge in operation of computer and basic applications, such as word-processing;
(d) have the aptitude to work in mortuary;
(e) pass an aptitude test to be arranged by the Department; and
(f) preferably have working experience in hospitals / public clinics including various health institutions.
(1) For appointment purpose, 'Attained with Distinction (I)' in Applied Learning subjects (subject to a maximum of two Applied Learning subjects), and Grade C in Other Language subjects in the HKDSEE are accepted as equivalent to Level 3 in the New Senior Secondary subjects in the HKDSEE. 'Attained' in Applied Learning subjects (subject to a maximum of two Applied Learning subjects), and Grade E in Other Language subjects in the HKDSEE are accepted as equivalent to Level 2 in the New Senior Secondary subjects in the HKDSEE.
(2) The subjects may include Chinese Language and English Language.
(3) For appointment purpose, Grade C and Grade E in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 are accepted administratively as comparable to Level 3 and Level 2 respectively in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.
Mainly deployed on -
(a) undertaking clerical routines including preparation of statistical reports, maintenance and filing of records and autopsy reports, keeping inventories and handling enquiries;
(b) taking care of the mortuary and supervising frontline mortuary staff;
(c) monitoring the body receipt, storage and disposal procedures, arranging the storage and disposal of bodies, preparing and updating case records and preparing daily returns;
(d) assisting in arrangements for identification of deceased persons, and explaining its procedures to next-of-kin of the deceased; and
(e) assisting pathologists in the preparation and dispatching of specimens for special examinations.
(1) Subject to deployment to various mortuaries within the Department as and when required.
(2) Working hours will be less than 18 hours per week and normally be in the morning session.)
Terms of Appointment:
Successful candidates will be appointed on non-civil service contract terms for one year. Renewal of contract will be subject to the service need of the Department and the performance of the candidate.
Rest days, statutory holidays (or substituted holidays), annual leave, maternity / paternity leave and sickness allowance, where appropriate, will be granted in line with the Employment Ordinance (Cap. 57).
(a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

In these circumstances, only shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend the aptitude test and / or selection interview.
(f) It is Government policy to place people with a disability in appropriate jobs wherever possible. If a disabled candidate meets the entry requirements, he / she will be invited to attend the aptitude test and / or selection interview without being subject to any further shortlisting. Applicants who have declared disabilities found suitable for appointment may be given an appropriate degree of preference over other applicants whose suitability for appointment is considered comparable to that of the former. (g) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions / Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications. They should submit copies of their official transcripts and certificates by mail to the above contact address.

The application period for the position of Part-time Mortuary Officer is from 23 August 2019 (Friday) to 5 September 2019 (Thursday).
