Master Pay Scale Point 5 ($16,790) to Master Pay Scale Point 8 ($20,270) per month
(a) have experience in performing domestic work and preparation work for banquets, and serving guests in reception in a large household or establishment; and
(b) be able to communicate in fluent Cantonese, simple English and simple Putonghua, and read and write simple Chinese and simple English.
(Note : Candidates will be required to pass a trade test).
For the purpose of heightening public awareness of the Basic Law (BL) and promoting a culture of learning of BL in the community, applicants for civil service jobs will be assessed on their BL knowledge. Candidates who are invited to attend the recruitment interview will be tested orally on their BL knowledge during recruitment interview. The results of BL assessment will be taken into account only if two candidates are considered equal in all other aspects.
A Domestic Servant is mainly deployed on performing (a) household duties in official residence, including cleaning, tidying-up places, laundry and ironing work, etc.; (b) preparation work for banquets and serving of guests at receptions; and (c) other duties assigned by Chief Steward, Head Steward and senior officers.
(Note : A Domestic Servant is required to (i) ‘live-in’; (ii) work irregular hours and overtime including evenings, weekends and public holidays; (iii) wear uniform; and (iv) be subject to posting to any government department/office.)
Terms of Appointment:
New appointees will be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, the officers may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.
(a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

(f) Fringe benefits include paid leave, medical and dental benefits, and where appropriate, assistance in housing.
(g) Where a large number of candidates meet the specified entry requirements, the recruiting department may devise shortlisting criteria to select the better qualified candidates for further processing. In these circumstances, only shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend interview.
(h) It is Government policy to place people with a disability in appropriate jobs wherever possible. If a disabled candidate meets the entry requirements, he/she will be invited to attend the selection interview without being subject to further shortlisting. Applicants who have declared disabilities found suitable for appointment may be given an appropriate degree of preference over other applicants whose suitability for appointment is considered comparable to that of the former. How to apply:
Application forms [G.F.340 (Rev. 3/2013)] are obtainable from any Home Affairs Enquiry Centres of District Offices, Home Affairs Department or any Job Centres of the Employment Services Division, Labour Department. The said form can also be downloaded from the Civil Service Bureau’s website (http://www.csb.gov.hk). Applications should be submitted via one of the following means -
(a) by post to the Personnel Office, Departmental Administration Unit, Administration Wing, Room 2561, 25/F, Central Government Offices, 2 Tim Mei Avenue, Tamar, Hong Kong, with the envelope clearly marked “Application for the post of Domestic Servant” (the postmark date on the envelope will be regarded as the date of submission of application). To avoid delayed or unsuccessful delivery of applications by post, please ensure that the correct address is clearly printed or written on the envelope and sufficient postage has been affixed before posting. Mail items bearing insufficient postage will not be delivered to this Office and will be returned to the sender or disposed of by the Hongkong Post, where appropriate. Applicants will bear any consequences arising from paying insufficient postage;
(b) by hand to the application drop-in box of Administration Wing located at the Staff Entrance, 2/F., East Wing, Central Government Offices, 2 Tim Mei Avenue, Tamar, Hong Kong, with the envelope clearly marked “Application for the post of Domestic Servant”. The drop-in box is available from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday (except public holidays) and up till 5:00 p.m. on the closing date of application; or
(c) through on-line facilities on the Civil Service Bureau homepage at http://www.csb.gov.hk. Candidates who applied online should submit copies of supporting documents not later than one week after the close of application to the contact address and the online application number should be quoted on the envelope and the copies of all supporting documents.
Applications which are incomplete, late or submitted by fax or email, or not made in the prescribed form, or without the required supporting documents will not be considered.
Applicants should provide their email addresses on the application forms. Candidates who are selected for interview will normally receive an invitation in about six to eight weeks from the closing date of application. Those who are not invited for interview may assume that their applications are unsuccessful. Only candidates who are selected for interview will be notified.
