Job Title: Assistant Editor (English) 
Salary: HK$ 70,590 per month 
Entry Requirements: Applicants should –
(1)(a) have a Hong Kong bachelor’s degree, or equivalent; plus at least eight years of relevant work experience in journalism, preferably with experience in news reporting/broadcasting and web publishing/ social media [Note 1]; OR
(b) have an accredited associate degree/higher diploma in arts or journalism from a Hong Kong tertiary institution, or equivalent; plus at least eight years of relevant work experience in journalism, preferably with experience in news reporting/broadcasting and web publishing/ social media [Note 1]; OR
(c) have a diploma in arts or journalism from a registered post-secondary college issued after the date of its registration, or equivalent; plus at least eight years of relevant work experience in journalism, preferably with experience in news reporting/broadcasting and web publishing/social media [Note 1]; OR
(d) have Level 3 or equivalent [Note 2] or above in five subjects, including English Language, in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) [Note 3], or equivalent; or Grade E or above in two subjects at Advanced Level in the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (HKALE) and Level 3 [Note 4]/Grade C or above in three other subjects in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) [Note 3], with English Language (Syllabus B for HKCEE before 2007) being one of the five subjects, or equivalent; plus at least 11 years of relevant work experience in journalism, preferably with experience in news reporting/broadcasting and web publishing/social media [Note 1]; OR
(e) have at least 13 years of relevant work experience in journalism, preferably with experience in news reporting/broadcasting and web publishing/social media [Note 1];
(2) be proficient in English speaking and news writing, and have good editing and communication skills;
(3) be familiar with news video production, including reporting, script writing and voice-over work;
(4) have a good understanding of current affairs;
(5) be prepared to work outside normal office hours and meet tight deadlines;
(6) be prepared to train colleagues in writing and doing voice-overs; and
(7) be computer-literate, with good word processing skills.

Selection
Eligible applicants are required to sit a written examination conducted by Information Services Department. Only those who have passed the examination will be further considered for the selection interview. 
Note: (1) Refers to full-time work experience. Work experience of part-time job, internship, freelance or voluntary work will NOT be considered.
(2) “Attained with Distinction I” in Applied Learning (ApL) subjects, “Attained with Distinction” in Applied Learning (Chinese) (ApL(C)) (subject to a maximum of two ApL subjects), and Grade C in Other Language subjects in the HKDSEE are accepted as equivalent to Level 3 in the New Senior Secondary subjects in the HKDSEE. “Attained” in ApL subjects (subject to a maximum of two ApL subjects), and Grade E in Other Language subjects in the HKDSEE are accepted as equivalent to Level 2 in the New Senior Secondary subjects in the HKDSEE.
(3) The subjects may include Chinese Language.
(4) Grade C and Grade E in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 are accepted administratively as comparable to Level 3 and Level 2 respectively in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth. 
Duties: - Editing and writing news stories, features, voice-over scripts and social media content.
- Developing ideas for stories, features and social media content.
- Conducting interviews and providing voice-overs for videos.
- Upgrading colleagues’ writing and voice-over skills. 
Terms of Appointment: Successful candidate for the position will be appointed on non-civil service contract terms for one year. Renewal of contract will be subject to the service need of the Department and the performance of the candidate. 
Fringe Benefits Upon satisfactory completion of the contract period with consistently satisfactory standard of performance and conduct throughout the contract, the appointee will be granted a gratuity for the period of service. Such gratuity, plus any contribution by the Government to a Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) scheme in respect of the appointee required by the MPF Schemes Ordinance, will equal 15 per cent of the total basic salary drawn during the contract period. Rest days, statutory holidays, annual leave, maternity/paternity leave, sickness allowance, where appropriate, will be no less favourable than the provisions of the Employment Ordinance. 
General Notes: (a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

If a disabled candidate meets the entry requirements, he/she will be invited to attend the written examination and/or selection interview without being subject to any further shortlisting criteria. (g) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications. They should submit copies of their official transcripts and certificates by mail to the enquiry address.
