Job Title: Technical Officer Trainee (Civil) 
Salary: Training Pay Scale Point 4 ($14,185 per month) to Training Pay Scale Point 6 ($16,095 per month) 
Entry Requirements: Candidates should have -
(a) (i) obtained a Certificate in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or Building Studies from a Hong Kong polytechnic university / polytechnic, the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education or a technical institute / technical college, or equivalent; or
(ii) Level 3 or above in Mathematics and Level 2 or equivalent or above in four other subjects including Physics / Combined Science (Biology & Physics) / Combined Science (Chemistry & Physics) / Integrated Science in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination(HKDSEE) [Note (1) and (2)], or equivalent; or
(iii) Grade C or above in Mathematics and Level 2 / Grade E or above in four other subjects including Physics or Engineering Science in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent (preference will be given to those who have Grade E or above in Technical Drawing) [Note (2) and (3)];
(b) met the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 or above in Chinese Language and English Language in HKDSEE or HKCEE, or equivalent [Note (3)]. 
Note: (1) For civil service appointment purpose, “Attained with Distinction” in Applied Learning subjects (subject to a maximum of two Applied Learning subjects), and Grade C in Other Language subjects in the HKDSEE are accepted as equivalent to Level 3 in the New Senior Secondary subjects in the HKDSEE. “Attained” in Applied Learning subjects (subject to a maximum of two Applied Learning subjects), and Grade E in Other Language subjects in the HKDSEE are accepted as equivalent to Level 2 in the New Senior Secondary subjects in the HKDSEE.
(2) The subjects may include Chinese Language and English Language.
(3) For civil service appointment purpose, ‘Grade E’ in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 is accepted administratively as comparable to ‘Level 2’ in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.
(4) For the purpose of heightening public awareness of the Basic Law (BL) and promoting a culture of learning of BL in the community, applicants for civil service jobs will be assessed on their BL knowledge. The BL test result will constitute an appropriate weighting in a candidate’s overall assessment. 
Duties: A Technical Officer Trainee (Civil) is mainly deployed on undergoing training including on-the-job training in the following areas and attending full-time or part-time course, if considered necessary by the Department, for a period of three years –
(a) preparing drawings, charts and diagrams of all types relating to civil engineering work;
(b) making simple engineering calculations and undertaking occasional site assignments; and
(c) assisting in simple computer operation and providing computing support.
(Notes: Selected candidates may be posted to other government departments; and may be required to work shift or irregular hours, perform outdoor duties, and perform emergency and on-call duties during typhoon, severe weather conditions and other emergency events.) 
Terms of Appointment: A new recruit will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, he/she may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms. 
General Notes: (a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

In these circumstances, only shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend recruitment interview.
(h)It is Government policy to place people with a disability in appropriate jobs wherever possible. If a disabled candidate meets the entry requirements, he/she will be invited to attend the selection interview/written examination without being subject to further shortlisting. How to apply: Application Forms (G.F. 340 [(Rev. 3/2013)]) are obtainable from any Home Affairs Enquiry Centres of District Offices, Home Affairs Department or any Job Centres of the Employment Services Division, Labour Department. The said form can also be downloaded from the Civil Service Bureau's website (http://www.csb.gov.hk).

Completed form, together with a copy of documentary evidence of academic qualifications and technical qualifications (including official transcript), should reach the enquiry address below on or before the closing date for application (the postmark date on the envelope will be regarded as the date of application). Please mark on envelope the title of the job applied for. To avoid delayed or unsuccessful delivery of applications by post, please ensure that the correct address is clearly printed or written on the envelope and sufficient postage has been affixed before posting. Mail items bearing insufficient postage will not be delivered to this Department and will be returned to the sender or disposed of by the Hongkong Post, where appropriate. Applicants will bear any consequences arising from paying insufficient postage.
